  • Movement - S&C Fundamentals for Runners in collaboration with @groundworktraining. 
We have always been keen on supporting marathon training with a good level of strength and conditioning - not just for improving (running) performance but importantly to help us all stay injury free. 
We know lots of runners don’t know where to start with strength and conditioning, so we’re giving you a little helping hand to get started. We’ve collaborated with the great team at Groundwork Training to develop a training programme perfect for runners and those training for upcoming spring marathons and half marathons. 
The 5 sessions in the programme will start on the 2nd March and will be run over 5 consecutive weeks covering the basic fundamentals of Squat, Hinge, Push/Pull and Power Development. Each session will be semi private (max 12 people) to ensure a great level of coaching and will last 75mins. You’ll be able to learn the basic movements in a safe and friendly environment and then put your learning to practice with a running specific workout - that’ll you’ll easily be able to replicate yourself again in any gym.

  • Nutrition - Avocado 
Considered to be the millennial’s brunch staple, the avocado not only tastes delicious, but also contains high quantities of nutrients and antioxidants. 
Avocados are made up of almost two-thirds fat and, although this means your favourite toast topping can be relatively calorific, it is important to consider the type of fat too. Avocados contain monounsaturated fat AKA the “good fat”, as it lowers “bad” cholesterol and helps with cell maintenance. 
Avocados also contain relatively high levels of potassium: half an avocado contains roughly the same amount as a small banana. Potassium is a vital mineral that helps regulate fluids and electrolytes in the body. This is especially important for runners as it will help prevent cramping.

Earlier this week we had the pleasure of catching-up with @redbulluk athlete @TomEvansUltra after one of his afternoon strength and conditioning sessions. 
The full interview is now live on our website but here’s a little taster of what we discussed. • 
Q: What are your goals for 2019? 
I want to really put my mark on ultra trail running, I’m doing my first 100 mile race in the US, Western States at the end of June. •

Q: What does your training schedule look like on a weekly basis now you’re in training for Western States 100? 
High-volume! I'll try and get up to 145-155 miles, probably 20,000ft climbing a week. Still incorporating speed work and intensity into it, even as an ultra marathon runner being able to run fast is really important, doing workouts like 8x1k, 6x1mile or 4x8 minutes at 10K pace. I find that stuff really beneficial. As well as implementing other types of training, I’m a huge believer in strength and conditioning and I get at least two s&c sessions in a week, ideally three. Living in a relatively flat area, it allows me to condition my body to training in the mountains and also helps enforce my biomechanics. • 
Q: After you've done a long race like ccc utmb, how do you recover? 
Recovery is huge and really depends on the individual and the race. The more downhill running there is in a race, the longer it's gonna take me to recover. After a main ‘A race’ I take at least a week off completely - no exercise. I think rest is really important. The reason that I have managed to perform in the way I have in some races is not necessarily just my training. I put a lot of emphasis on the rest and the recovery, not just after a race but during a training block. •
